Which charger should you choose for an electric Mini Cooper?
Electric Minis charge from alternating current at 11 kW - this applies to 9 of the 10 versions in our database. The right choice is an 11 kW Q11, or a P11 if you prefer a display to an app. The connector in every Mini is Type 2, so the cable is standard.
Why does one Mini version get a Q37 instead of a Q11?
Because it is the only plug-in hybrid in the range. It has an 8.8 kWh battery and a 3.7 kW onboard charger, so a Q37 or a P35 with a display suits it. The other nine versions are electric cars capped at 11 kW. One range, two completely different power tiers.
How long does charging the largest battery in the Mini range take?
The largest battery holds 65.2 kWh and at 11 kW it fills from empty in roughly 6-7 hours. The smallest, 8.8 kWh, needs around 2.5 hours at 3.7 kW. In both cases one overnight connection settles it.
Do the Aceman, Cooper and Countryman need different chargers?
In their electric versions no - all accept 11 kW, so a Q11 or P11 fits each of them. Only the batteries differ, and in the Mini range those run from 8.8 to 65.2 kWh. The exception is the single plug-in version, for which we match a Q37.
I have a 2017 Mini - is it matched differently from a new one?
Not because of the model year. Our database covers 2017-2026 and throughout that period the connector stays Type 2. All that counts is the charging power in the technical data: 11 kW for the electric versions, 3.7 kW for the plug-in. That points to a Q11 or a Q37.
How long does topping a Mini up from 20 to 80 percent take?
With the largest battery in the range, 65.2 kWh, filling those 60 percent is around 39 kWh, so 3.5-4 hours at 11 kW. A top-up like that fits comfortably into an evening stop and needs nothing more powerful than a Q11.
