Which charger do we match to the VinFast VF 8 and VF 6?
The range holds 2 models and 4 versions from the 2023-2026 model years, all fully electric and all with a Type 2 connector. Three versions accept 11 kW and for them we match a Q11, or a P11 if you prefer operating from a display. One tops out at 7.4 kW and there a Q74 is enough.
How long does charging VinFast's largest battery, 87.7 kWh, take?
At the onboard 11 kW a full charge from empty takes around 8 to 9 hours. The smallest pack in the range holds 59.6 kWh and fills in roughly 6 hours. If the car ends up on 7.4 kW equipment, add some 3 hours more for the 87.7 kWh pack.
VinFast offers only electric cars - does that simplify the match?
Yes, because the distinction with plug-in hybrids and their small batteries falls away. All 4 versions are electric cars with packs from 59.6 to 87.7 kWh, the kind where the full 11 kW genuinely matters. One question remains: whether your version has 11 or 7.4 kW.
One VinFast version has 7.4 kW onboard - when does that make a difference?
Always with a large battery. An 87.7 kWh pack at 11 kW charges in around 8 to 9 hours, and at 7.4 kW close to 12. For such a version we match a portable charger or a Q74 wallbox, because a more powerful device will not exceed the car's limit anyway.
What does a three-phase installation give when charging a VinFast?
Only on three phases will a portable charger or wallbox deliver the full 11 kW that 3 of the 4 versions in the range accept. On a single phase the maximum is 3.7 kW, meaning a Q37, and then an 87.7 kWh battery would charge for almost a whole day. At these capacities the difference is noticeable.
I am buying a used VinFast - what should I look at when matching a charger?
At the onboard power, because that is the only thing that differs here. The 2023-2026 model years share a Type 2 connector, and the divergence concerns 11 kW in 3 versions and 7.4 kW in 1. Check it in the manual, or send us the version and year and we will point to a Q11 or a Q74.
