Collection: Charging the Dacia Spring – what is the best charger?

The Dacia Spring is one of the most affordable electric cars in Europe. The Electric 45 version, available since 2024, features a 26.8 kWh battery (approximately 25 kWh usable). Thanks to its low weight (around 1009 kg) and compact dimensions, it offers a real-world range of about 165 km according to EV-Database. The onboard charger supports AC charging up to 6.6 kW, while the CCS socket allows for DC fast charging up to 34 kW.

Charging options

You can charge the Spring at home, at work, or at public stations. The table below shows charging times at different power levels:

Charging method Power Number of phases 0–100% time
230 V household socket 2.3 kW 1 phase approx. 13 h
3.7 kW charger 3.7 kW 1 phase approx. 8 h
6.6 kW charger (AC) 6.6 kW 1 phase ≈ 4.5 h
22 kW charger limited to 6.6 kW 3 phases (car: 1 phase) ≈ 4.5 h
DC fast charging (CCS) 34 kW DC 10–80% in ≈ 38 min

What you gain with our chargers

The Spring has a single-phase onboard charger rated at 6.6 kW, so there's no benefit in using high-power three-phase wallboxes. Instead, our portable 7.4 kW (Q74) or 3.7 kW (P35) chargers provide effective home charging that fully utilizes the vehicle’s capabilities. 11 kW or stronger chargers won’t charge the Spring faster, as it still draws only 6.6 kW—and when using an 11 kW charger, you’ll only reach 3.7 kW since only one phase will be active.

Main advantages of Ampere Point chargers:

Maximized onboard charging capacity: The portable Q74 charger from our Q series offers adjustable power from 6 to 32 A, delivering up to 7.4 kW on one phase. This fully utilizes the Spring’s onboard charger (6.6 kW), charging the battery in about 4.5 hours. For users relying on a standard 230 V socket, the compact P35 model delivers 3.7 kW (16 A)—sufficient for daily commuting.

Versatile applications: Both models come with a 6-meter Type 2 cable. The P35 connects to a regular 230 V outlet, while the Q74 requires a CEE32A (red “industrial”) socket.

Power control and scheduling: Both devices feature a 2.4″ display. The Q74 supports stepless current adjustment (6–32 A) and allows scheduled charging via the Tuya Smart app. The P35 offers selectable current (8/10/13/16 A) and delayed start options (1, 2, 5, or 8 hours).

Remote control: The Q74 includes Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and integrates with the Tuya app for full smart-home compatibility. The P35 doesn’t have Wi‑Fi, but its settings can be adjusted via its control panel.

Safety features: Both chargers include intelligent control systems that monitor and correct charging errors. They provide protection against overload, overvoltage, undervoltage, leakage current, grounding faults, and overheating. With IP65/IP66 ratings, they are suitable for outdoor use.

How fast can you charge the Dacia Spring with our chargers?

Portable Q74 charger (7.4 kW): Connected to a CEE32A socket, it delivers up to 7.4 kW (1 phase). The Spring will draw up to 6.6 kW, resulting in a full charge in about 4.5 hours.

Portable P35 charger (3.7 kW): Uses a standard 230 V socket and charges at up to 3.7 kW, fully charging the battery in approximately 8–9 hours.

Wallboxes 11 kW and 22 kW: These won't reduce charging time for the Dacia Spring, as it limits intake to 6.6 kW. When connected to an 11 kW charger, the vehicle will still only draw 3.7 kW. A 22 kW charger will allow charging at 6.6 kW. These wallboxes, however, are a good future-proof investment if you plan to upgrade to a vehicle with a more powerful onboard charger.

Summary

The Dacia Spring features a small battery and a 6.6 kW single-phase onboard charger. For everyday use, our portable chargers are the most practical solution: the compact 3.7 kW P35 model plugs into a standard outlet, while the more advanced Q74 provides 7.4 kW power with adjustable current and Wi‑Fi control. Both chargers fully utilize the car's capabilities and ensure safe, convenient charging. While 11 kW and 22 kW wallboxes won’t speed up charging for this model, they can be a smart long-term investment if you plan to switch to a car with a more powerful onboard charger.
