Which charger for the Smart #1?
The Smart #1 belongs to the 22 kW group, which numbers 13 of 19 versions in the database, so we match a Q22, or a Q22 PRO for the variant with adapters. The 4.6 kW figure applies only to the older ForTwo, ForFour, EQ fortwo and EQ forfour, where a Q74 or P72 is right.
When does a Q22 genuinely make sense in a Smart?
When the car has 22 kW onboard - and the database holds 13 such versions. With a 96 kWh battery a Q22 closes a full cycle in around 5 hours. With the 4.6 kW versions a Q22 changes nothing: the car will draw its 4.6 kW, so a Q74 or P72 is enough there.
Why do you propose a Q74 rather than a Q37 for the 4.6 kW versions?
Because the Q37 gives 3.7 kW, less than the car can accept, and needlessly extends charging. The Q74 at 7.4 kW lets you use the full 4.6 kW. With a 16.7 kWh pack that means around 4 hours instead of around 5. A more powerful device adds nothing beyond that here.
Do the old EQ fortwo and the new Smart #5 charge the same way?
No. The range covers model years from 2017 to 2026 and spans 4.6 to 22 kW, with batteries between 16.7 and 96 kWh. It is one of the wider spreads among brands, so we always start the match by reading the AC power of the given version, not the model name.
Are there cars with a Type 1 connector in the Smart range?
No. All 19 versions in the database, from 2017 to 2026, have a Type 2 socket. Type 1 and the B35 model do not apply to this brand. So we choose purely by power: a Q74 at 4.6 kW onboard, or a 22 kW Q22 if the car accepts 22 kW.
What does the Q22 PRO give compared with the standard Q22?
The power is the same, 22 kW. The Q22 PRO has additional adapters, so you can connect to a wider range of sockets. With Smart versions that have 22 kW onboard and a battery up to 96 kWh, both variants will charge the car in around 5 hours.
