Which charger for the Kia EV6 or EV9?
Modern Kia electric cars from the EV family have an 11 kW onboard charger - 26 of the 40 versions in our database do. For those we match a Q11 or P11, portable or as a wallbox. The largest battery in the range, 96 kWh, will charge from empty in around 9 hours, meaning overnight.
How does matching for Kia plug-in hybrids differ from full electric cars?
Our database holds 8 Kia plug-in hybrids and 32 electric cars. The hybrids have small batteries, from 7.1 kWh, and usually 3.3 kW onboard, so a Q37 or P35 suits them - they will charge in around 2 to 3 hours. The electric cars most often take 11 kW and require a Q11.
I have an older Kia Soul EV - why do I need a B35 charger?
One of the 40 Kia versions in our database still has the American Type 1 connector rather than Type 2. For it we match the B35, because that is the only charger with a Type 1 plug - it gives 3.7 kW. The remaining 39 versions have Type 2 and use ordinary portable chargers or wallboxes.
When is a Q74 enough for a Kia instead of a Q11?
When your version has 7.2 kW onboard - our database holds 6 such versions out of 40. A Q74 or P72 gives 7.4 kW, which is what the car will actually accept. A more powerful Q11 connected to such a car will stop at 7.2 kW anyway.
How do I check how many kilowatts my Kia accepts?
Across the Kia range from 2014-2026 we meet four onboard powers: 3.3 kW, 6.6 kW, 7.2 kW and 11 kW. You will find yours in the car's manual in the alternating current charging section, or in the technical data for the specific version. The charger choice depends on that number, not on the model.
We have a Kia EV3 and a plug-in hybrid at home - do we need two chargers?
No. One Q11 charger will serve both cars, because each will draw only what its onboard rectifier accepts: 11 kW for the electric car, 3.3 kW for the hybrid. It does not work the other way round - a Q37 bought for the hybrid will slow the electric car's charging to 3.7 kW.
