Block Charging During Certain Hours With a Schedule - Step-by-Step

Jan Prószyński

The simplest way to stop your AMPERE POINT charger from charging during certain hours - for example during an expensive daytime rate - is the Schedule built into the charger's own settings. This guide walks through setting it up.

Before you start - check this is enough for you: a schedule sends an "off" and an "on" command at set times, and that's the end of its job. If the car is plugged in only after the blocked window has already started, charging will start anyway - a schedule doesn't watch the device. If you need a rule that works no matter when the car gets plugged in, you need the automation described in Build a Tuya Automation That Blocks Charging During Set Hours. This guide is enough when the car stays plugged in for the whole blocked window.

Example: blocking 6:00–10:00 and 17:00–21:00

Step by step

A schedule is set separately for each charger, in its own settings - not in the Automation tab.

  1. Open the charger's settings - from the home screen, select the charger from your device list, then tap the settings icon (gear) in the top right corner.
  2. Go to Schedule - this is a separate area from Automation, and it only handles time-based control for this one device.
  3. Add a new entry with the + button. To block a time window, you need two entries: an off command at the start of the window and an on command at the end.
  4. Set the time and the Off action for the start of the blocked window.
  5. Select the days of the week under Repeat - without this, the entry only runs once and then stops working.
  6. Save, then add a second entry - repeat steps 3–5 for the end time of the window, this time choosing the On action and the same days of the week.
  7. Check the schedule list - both entries appear with their time, action, and days. Either one can be toggled off without deleting it, for example while you're on holiday.
  8. Done - a schedule is stored in the charger's memory and keeps running even without an internet connection. Check after a few days that it switches at the right times.

No internet? Not a problem: unlike an automation, a schedule is stored in the charger's memory and runs locally. An app connection is only needed to set up or change the entries.

Need more than fixed hours? If the car is plugged in at varying times and the block needs to work regardless of when, see Build a Tuya Automation That Blocks Charging During Set Hours - it describes a rule based on the charger's state rather than the clock.
