Charging Nissan - FAQ
Which charger for the Nissan LEAF?
It depends on the model year, because the LEAF has changed both its onboard power and its connector. The LEAF 24 and 30 kWh from 2011-2018 have a Type 1 socket and 3.3 kW, so they get the B35. The LEAF 40 kWh accepts 3.6 kW and a Q37 or P35 suits it, the LEAF e+ 62 kWh accepts 6.6 kW and gets a Q74 or P72, and the new LEAF from 2025 already takes 11 kW, meaning a Q11 or P11.
I have an older LEAF with a Type 1 connector - what fits it?
Three of the 16 Nissan versions in our database have a Type 1 socket. For those we match the B35, the only charger with a Type 1 plug, rated at 3.7 kW. A 22 kWh battery will charge from it from empty in around 6 hours. The other 13 versions have Type 2 and standard chargers.
Which Nissan version accepts 22 kW?
Our database holds exactly one such version out of 16, and it is the only case in which we match a Q22 to a Nissan. The rest of the range sits between 3.3 and 11 kW, so before reaching for a 22 kW charger, check your car's technical data.
How long does charging a Nissan Ariya with an 87 kWh battery take?
The largest battery in the Nissan range holds 87 kWh. At the onboard 11 kW a full charge from empty takes around 8 hours, so it fits into an overnight stop. At 7.4 kW the same cycle grows to around 12 hours, which is why with a large battery a three-phase installation is worth having.
Which charger do we match most often for a Nissan?
In our database of 16 Nissan versions the most frequent match is the Q11 - 6 versions, including the newest LEAF, the Micra and the Townstar. Right behind it is the Q74 with 5 versions: the Ariya models with 7.4 kW and the LEAF e+ with 6.6 kW. The oldest LEAFs and the e-NV200 have a Type 1 socket and get the B35, which is why with Nissan we always start from the AC power and the socket of the specific version.
I am buying a used Nissan - where do I start?
With two things: check the connector and the onboard power. In the 2011-2026 range we meet both Type 1 and Type 2, and powers from 3.3 through 6.6 and 7.4 up to 22 kW. Only those two figures settle whether you need a B35, Q37, Q74, Q11 or Q22.
