Audi has both plug-in hybrids and electric cars - how does the charger choice differ?
In our database all 70 electric Audi versions have an 11 kW onboard charger, so we match a Q11 or a portable P11. The twenty plug-in versions have less: 17 of them accept 7.4 kW and three only 3.6-3.7 kW. Hybrids therefore get a Q74 or P72, or a Q37 or P35 - never 11 kW.
Which charger for the Audi Q4 e-tron?
The vast majority of the Q4 e-tron range runs at 11 kW and then the Q11 or P11 is the right answer. The exception is the oldest 35 versions from 2021-2023, which accept 7.2 kW - there a Q74 or P72 fits. Check the AC power in your technical data, because a more powerful unit will drop to the car's value anyway.
Which Audi will be satisfied with a 3.7 kW charger?
Only three versions out of 90 in our database. These are the oldest plug-in hybrids, which accept 3.6 or 3.7 kW. For them the right choice is a Q37, or a P35 if you prefer operating from a display rather than an app. If you own an Audi from this group, 11 kW equipment will not shorten charging by a single minute.
From 7.5 to 106 kWh - how long does charging at home take?
It depends on the battery, and the spread across the Audi range is enormous: from 7.5 kWh in plug-in hybrids to 106 kWh in the large e-trons. Small hybrid batteries charge at 3.7 kW in 2-3 hours. For a large electric car with a battery over 90 kWh at 11 kW, count on 9-11 hours.
Do you need a Type 1 cable for an Audi?
No. All 90 Audi versions from the 2014-2026 model years that we hold use a Type 2 socket. No adapter or Type 1 cable is required. Our portable chargers and wallboxes in the Type 2 version fit the entire range, from the hybrid A3 Sportback to the e-tron GT.
Is it worth paying extra for a 22 kW charger?
There is no point. None of the 90 Audi versions in our database accepts more than 11 kW from an AC socket. A Q22 will deliver exactly the same as a Q11 while demanding a stronger electrical installation. The ceiling for this brand is 11 kW, meaning the Q11 or the P11 with a display.
