Which charger should you choose for a Hyundai from the IONIQ family?
In the Hyundai range 28 of 35 versions charge at 11 kW and for those we match an 11 kW Q11. Six versions are limited to 7.2 kW, where a Q74 is right, and one accepts only 3.3 kW and a Q37 is enough for it. Give us the model and year and we will point precisely.
Hyundai Santa Fe and Tucson plug-in - do we match the same as for the electric cars?
Not always. This range holds 5 plug-in hybrid versions, and their batteries start at 7.1 kWh, so such a pack fills in around an hour even at 7.4 kW. Reaching for 11 kW for a hybrid with a battery that small achieves nothing, because the car will not draw more anyway.
How long does charging a 106 kWh battery in a Hyundai take?
That is the largest pack in this range. At the onboard 11 kW a full charge from empty takes around 10 to 11 hours, which fits into a longer overnight stop. At 7.4 kW the same battery would already need 14 to 15 hours, which is why at such capacities we match a Q11.
I am buying a used 2016 Hyundai - is the choice different from a new car?
It may be. The range covers model years 2016-2026 and in older versions we meet weaker onboard chargers, down to one version with 3.3 kW, for which a Q37 is right. The connector, on the other hand, is common across the brand, so a portable charger or wallbox fits regardless of the year.
I have a single-phase installation at home - will a Hyundai charge?
Yes, but more slowly. On one phase a portable charger or wallbox will deliver a maximum of around 3.7 kW, meaning a Q37, regardless of the fact that the car would accept 11 kW. With a 106 kWh pack that means close to 30 hours, while with the smaller batteries in the range one night may already be enough.
Does a Hyundai need an adapter or a different connector from other brands?
No. All 35 versions, from the INSTER to the IONIQ 9, have a Type 2 connector, the same standard our portable charger and wallbox from the same family support. No Hyundai in the listing uses Type 1, so the B35 does not come into play.
