Which charger should you choose for the Lightyear 0?
The Lightyear 0 accepts alternating current at 22 kW, the highest that occurs in home charging at all. The matching device is a Q22 or Q22 PRO. The socket in the car is Type 2 and the battery holds 60 kWh.
Why do you recommend a Q22 for the Lightyear 0 rather than a Q11?
Because it is one of the few cars with a 22 kW onboard charger. In most ranges the ceiling is 11 kW and then a Q22 adds nothing; here it is the opposite - a Q11 would waste half the car's capability. A Q22 lets you use the full 22 kW.
How long does charging a 60 kWh battery at 22 kW take?
Around 3 hours from empty to full. By comparison, the same battery on an 11 kW device would need roughly 6 hours, and on 7.4 kW over 8. That is the main benefit of a charger matched to what the Lightyear 0 can do.
Will a Q11 work with the Lightyear 0?
It will; the car will charge without trouble, just twice as slowly: around 6 hours instead of around 3. If the car stands all night, that makes no difference. If you want to top up during shorter daytime stops, choose a Q22.
What does the installation need in order to use 22 kW?
A three-phase supply with a properly sized breaker, because 22 kW means three phases at 32 A. On a single phase charging drops to around 3.7 kW and a 60 kWh battery will take well over a dozen hours to fill. Check the conditions in your garage before choosing a Q22.
How does the Q22 differ from the Q22 PRO?
The power is the same, 22 kW, so the Lightyear 0 will charge equally fast from either. The Q22 PRO additionally comes with a set of adapters, letting you connect in more places. If you charge only in one garage, the standard Q22 is entirely sufficient.
