Which charger for a BMW i4 or iX?
All i4 versions have 11 kW onboard, and so does the iX apart from the M70 xDrive, which accepts 22 kW. For 11 kW we match a portable charger or a Q11 wallbox, or a P11 with a display; for the M70 the right answer is a Q22. 11 kW is in any case the most common power in the BMW range, held by 41 of the 82 versions in our database.
How does the choice for a 330e hybrid differ from an electric iX?
The name does not settle it. Our database holds 41 plug-in BMW versions and 41 electric ones, but 12 plug-in hybrids, including the 330e Sedan and Touring from 2019-2026, have 11 kW onboard and we match a Q11 or P11 to them. The Q37 and Q74 are left for older plug-ins at 3.7 and 7.4 kW and for early electric cars at 7.4 kW.
Which BMW accepts 22 kW and when does a Q22 make sense?
Only 4 of the 82 BMW versions in our database have 22 kW onboard: the i5 M60 xDrive Sedan and Touring, the iX M70 xDrive and the iX5 60 xDrive. For those a Q22 is the right match, provided you have a three-phase supply at home with adequate capacity. In every other BMW version a Q22 is surplus you will not use.
How long does a full charge of the largest BMW battery take?
The largest BMW battery in our database holds 141 kWh and belongs to a version with a 22 kW onboard charger. At the full 22 kW a complete charge from a low state takes around 6 to 7 hours. Plug-in hybrid batteries start at 5.3 kWh and those we charge at 3.7 kW in under two hours.
