The electric era of the Taycan Turbo S
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the fastest production EV on the market in 2025. After the 2024 LCI, power rose to an absurd 952 hp with Launch Control, 0-100 in 2.4 seconds, and a WLTP range of up to 630 kilometres. It's the first EV that genuinely beats petrol supercars on the track (Nurburgring 7:24).
The launch in January 2019 was a signal: Porsche is jumping into the electric game with a completely new set of rules. 800 V architecture (previously only in Formula E cars), 270 kW DC (post-2024: 320 kW), two PMSM motors with a combined output of more than 900 hp. The fastest DC charging in the segment to this day.
Porsche chose 800 V architecture before Hyundai-Kia did it for the mainstream. It's a deliberate engineering decision: 800 V allows thinner cables (less cost, less weight) at the same DC power. The Porsche customer got DC charging that genuinely makes a difference on the road.
The showroom catch
The salesperson will present a beautiful car, but the subject of charging power is often passed over in silence. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S charges at 11 kW AC (with a 22 kW option for selected versions). We'll explain what that means for your wallet and how to avoid overpaying for a wallbox you don't need.
So what exactly is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S?
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is a flagship BEV sports saloon. Built on the J1 platform (shared with the Audi e-tron GT), it offers a purely electric drivetrain without the compromises of a combustion engine. The car was launched in 2019 and received its LCI facelift in 2024.
Unlike plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and classic hybrids (HEV), the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is a fully electric car (BEV). No petrol engine, no fuel tank, no exhaust. All of its range comes from the battery, which you charge from a socket. Its most important trait follows from that category: a single overnight charge is enough for the daily commute.
PHEV (plug-in hybrid)
Small battery (10-25 kWh), petrol engine + electric motor. EV range of 30-100 km. Charges from a socket.
BEV (that's the Porsche Taycan Turbo S)
Large battery (97 kWh net), electric motor only. WLTP range of 630 km. No emissions.
EREV (range extender)
Medium-sized battery, a small petrol engine acting as a generator (it doesn't drive the wheels directly). E.g. BMW i3 REx.
The battery that is the heart of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S
The Performance Plus pack, 105 kWh gross and 97 kWh net (after the 2024 LCI), comes from LG Energy Solution, from the plant in Wroclaw, Poland. The NCM 811 cells are optimised for ultra-fast DC charging. The pack is liquid-cooled with a separate thermal circuit.
The 8 kWh buffer protects the NCM 811 cells (which age faster than 622). Porsche guarantees the pack for 8 years or 160,000 kilometres, down to 70 per cent of capacity. Real-world measurements of 2019-2022 Taycans show 2-3 per cent degradation a year, despite a high number of DC cycles.
The 2024 LCI is a significant upgrade: new NCM 811 cells with better energy density (105 kWh gross vs 93.4 kWh before), DC raised from 270 kW to 320 kW, range from 484 km to 630 km. A two-speed gearbox on the rear motor for better efficiency on long journeys.
97 kWh net. What does that mean in practice?
With real-world energy consumption in everyday driving, 97 kWh net gives a range of 630 km under WLTP. That's enough for a typical week of use on a single overnight charge. DC at up to 320 kW takes care of the road-trip scenarios (10-80 per cent in 18-30 minutes).
Porsche Taycan Turbo S drivetrain capabilities
The Taycan Turbo S has two PMSM synchronous motors. 175 kW at the front, 415 kW at the rear (700 kW in total with Overboost via Launch Control). A two-speed gearbox at the rear - the only one in the EV segment. PCCB ceramic brakes with a diameter of 420 mm.

The Taycan offers Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Range modes plus the customisable Individual mode. Launch Control activates Overboost, which gives an extra 70 hp. Drift Mode only with the Performance package. Real-world consumption is 23-28 kWh/100 km in the city and 30+ kWh/100 km on the motorway.
Charging. Why 11 kW AC?
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has a built-in onboard charger, or OBC (On-Board Charger), with a limit of 11 kW (three-phase, 16 A). That means that whatever the external source (wallbox, portable charger, public AC station), the car will physically cap the power at that value. Standard Type 2 (Mennekes) connector.
Porsche is the only premium brand to offer a 22 kW AC option right from the start of the range. The standard 11 kW suits most scenarios, but the customer has a choice. The logic: if you're investing 900,000 in a car, an extra 4,000 for the 22 kW AC option makes no difference.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S accepts a maximum of 11 kW of AC power. Anything above that will be capped by the car's OBC.
Goal: full Porsche Taycan Turbo S battery (100%)
230 V household socket with the car's factory charger
Standard portable charger. Only 2.3 kW (10 A)
Three-phase CEE 16A socket + Q11/P11 charger
The full 11 kW - the maximum for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S
CEE 32A socket + Q22 (22 kW)
Only versions with the 22 kW AC option - the full 22 kW
The most common sales myth: dealers suggest that the fastest home charging is a wallbox. That's a half-truth. A wallbox is simply a charger in a wall-mounted housing. From the car's point of view there's no difference between an 11 kW wallbox and an 11 kW portable charger plugged into a CEE socket. The charging parameters are identical. For the Porsche Taycan Turbo S you'll get the fastest home charging from a portable charger or a wallbox rated at 11 kW. The portable one has an edge: you can take it to the summer house, to a hotel, to your in-laws'.
Now you know which charger you need
11 kW, Type 2, portable. No cutting into walls and no paying an electrician. Q11 with the WiFi app for PLN 1,349 or Q22 for PLN 1,549, the same power for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
Porsche Taycan Turbo S vs the competition
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S doesn't exist in a vacuum. The flagship BEV sports saloon segment has three natural rivals worth comparing it with on charging, range and price. Each of them has a different philosophy and different strengths.
Audi e-tron GT RS
11-22 kW AC, 84 kWh net, 598 hp, 3.3 s. The Taycan's twin brother, cheaper.
Porsche Taycan Turbo S
952 hp, 97 kWh net, 630 km range. AC 11 kW (opt. 22 kW) + DC up to 320 kW. Price PLN 900,000.
Premium segment Plaid
11 kW AC, 100 kWh, 1,020 hp (claimed), 2.1 s. The most powerful flagship in the segment.
The third important rival in the segment: Lucid Air Sapphire. 19 kW AC, 118 kWh, 1,234 hp, 2.0 s. American competition, for now only in the USA.
When does the Porsche Taycan Turbo S win? A specific combination of specs: battery, power, charging and price. For most customers in Poland it's still one of the best choices in the segment. When does it lose? The WLTP range of 630 km is, in some versions, shorter than the competition's. But for 90 per cent of users it's enough anyway.
Two chargers ideal for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S
Both 11 kW. Both charge the Porsche Taycan Turbo S in 10 hours. Choose the version with Smart WiFi or the simpler, cheaper one.

Q11 Smart WiFi (11 kW)
App, consumption monitoring, night tariff integration. 7.5 m Type 2 cable. Full charge at 11 kW in 7-8 hours.

Q22 Smart WiFi (22 kW)
For versions with the 22 kW AC option. Full charge in 4 hours. Requires a three-phase CEE 32A installation.
What do the testers say about the Porsche Taycan Turbo S?
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has been tested by leading Polish and European motoring media and by independent EV market experts. The testers' consensus is clear: a solid car with specific strengths and weaknesses. Below is a summary of the main findings from industry tests by the motoring press and from EV market analyses.
According to industry tests by the motoring press, the Taycan Turbo S Performance Plus covered 630 km WLTP. In the real world, 480-500 km on a motorway run. That's a realistic assessment worth taking into account before you buy.
Independent road tests highlight the handling: this is a Porsche. It's not an electric Porsche. It's simply a Porsche that happens not to have a combustion engine. That's an important point for people who value driving dynamics.
Industry analyses of the EV market indicate that 320 kW DC does its job, but at home 11 kW AC is enough. The 22 kW option is for people with a three-phase 32 A installation. That matches exactly what we see at Ampere Point.
That's exactly how we see it at Ampere Point. A customer buying a Porsche Taycan Turbo S gets a car designed for overnight 11 kW charging. Our Q11 and Q22 portable chargers are a perfect match: the full 11 kW, a Type 2 cable, 10 hours to a full battery. No wallbox, no electrician, no cutting into the wall.
Bottom line. Who the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is for and which charger
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the choice for someone who wants a flagship BEV sports saloon with a fully electric drivetrain. It's a perfect fit when: your daily commute is within the battery's range, you have access to a socket in the garage or in the car park, and you accept the need for DC on the road. Charger recommendation: if you value in-app consumption monitoring and night tariff integration, choose Q11 (PLN 1,349). If a simple, reliable charger is enough for you, go for Q22 (PLN 1,549). Both deliver the full 11 kW, both charge the Porsche Taycan Turbo S in 10 hours, and you can take both on holiday. A 22 kW wallbox bought for a Porsche Taycan Turbo S makes sense ONLY if you have the version with the 22 kW AC option.
"If you don't charge every day, you're driving on reserve and losing battery range for no reason. Sort out the socket and make plugging in a routine for savings of around 80% compared with fossil fuels."
