Which Lexus models accept 22 kW and when does a Q22 make sense?
Half the range, 5 of the 10 versions in our database, has a 22 kW onboard charger. That is rare on the market and it is exactly where a Q22 genuinely shortens charging. There is one condition: a three-phase installation with an adequate breaker. The other five versions top out at 6.6 kW.
I have a plug-in Lexus NX or RX - what do you match?
Lexus plug-in hybrids belong to the 6.6 kW group in our database, so we match a portable Q74 or P72. Their batteries start at 17 kWh, which at 6.6 kW means around 3 hours of charging. A Q22 would be a pure waste here, because the car will cut to 6.6 kW anyway.
How long does charging the largest battery in the range take?
The largest pack in the Lexus data is 72 kWh and it belongs to versions with 22 kW onboard, so a full cycle takes roughly 4 hours with a Q22. In the 6.6 kW group the largest battery holds 64 kWh, which with a Q74 or P72 gives around 10-11 hours. The car's power settles it, not capacity alone.
Is an ordinary garage socket enough for the 22 kW versions?
No. The full 22 kW requires a three-phase installation with an adequate breaker - without it a Q22 will drop to whatever the socket provides. Five Lexus versions in the database accept 22 kW and only with such an installation will they charge a 72 kWh pack in roughly 4 hours. The 6.6 kW versions have no such requirements.
What connector do Lexus models use and is an adapter needed?
All 10 Lexus versions from the 2020-2026 model years in our database have a Type 2 socket. No adapter is needed; a Type 2 charger connects directly. Note: the model name alone does not settle the power - the electric RZ appears in both the 6.6 kW and the 22 kW group, so we check the specific version.
Can I buy a Q22 for a 6.6 kW version with the future in mind?
You can, but it makes no sense. A car with a 6.6 kW onboard charger will draw 6.6 kW whether it stands at a Q74 or a Q22. Your next car may have a completely different power, so buying spare capacity today is a gamble. Match the equipment to the car you own.
