Why does the charger choice for a Honda depend on the version?
Because the range is not uniform. Among the five versions from 2020-2026 we meet three levels of onboard power: 6.6 kW, 6.8 kW and 11 kW. Three versions we handle with 7.4 kW equipment, meaning a Q74 or a portable P72, and two versions with an 11 kW charger.
Will one charger serve two Hondas with different onboard power?
Yes, because the Type 2 connector is common to all five versions. A portable charger or wallbox rated at 11 kW, meaning a Q11 or P11, will also serve the 6.6 and 6.8 kW versions - they will simply draw their maximum. If you only own a car with 6.6 kW, 7.4 kW is entirely sufficient.
Is a Honda plug-in hybrid matched differently from an electric car?
The principle is the same: what counts is onboard power, not drivetrain type. The range holds one plug-in hybrid and four electric cars, with batteries spread from 15 to 61.9 kWh. The hybrid has a smaller pack, so it will charge faster on the same equipment.
How long does charging a Honda with the largest 61.9 kWh battery take?
At the onboard 6.6 kW that is around 9 to 10 hours, and at 11 kW roughly 6 hours. The smallest pack in the range, 15 kWh, at 6.6 kW closes in under 3 hours. Everything depends on the version you own.
Will an 11 kW charger speed up charging a Honda with 6.6 kW?
No. The car will draw what its onboard charger allows, meaning 6.6 kW, and the rest of the power will go unused. For such a version the right choice is 7.4 kW, meaning a portable charger or a Q74 wallbox, or a P72 if you prefer a display to app control. More powerful equipment will not change a single minute here.
Does an older 2020 Honda e have a different connector from the new models?
No, all five versions in the 2020-2026 span use a Type 2 connector. By buying a portable charger or wallbox with a Type 2 cable you will serve both an older car and the newest one from the showroom. What differs is the onboard power, not the socket type.
